New to Bookkeeping?  Lynn’s Advice to Jumpstart your Journey!

Welcome to the world of bookkeeping, where every day is a new opportunity to grow and learn. If you're just starting out, here are some fantastic tips to get you on the right track:

  1. Define your path: Create a statement that defines your passion! What exactly do you feel comfortable doing? Don’t just say I am a bookkeeper.

    • Payroll management?

    • Sales tax management?

    • Sending invoices?

    • Collecting payments?

    • Meeting virtually?

    • Integration to POS systems like Square?

  2. Keep up with industry knowledge: You need to have a solid understanding of bookkeeping principles, financial terminology, and industry-specific regulations. Keep your knowledge sharp by subscribing to newsletters from trusted sources like:

  3. Connect and Learn: The Bookkeeper's Training Circle is an online community where you can connect with other bookkeepers, get advice from more experienced professional and have access to learning and training courses! And the first 30 days are FREE!  Join here >>>https://coachingbookkeepers.com/membership

  4. Social Media: Update your Profile on LinkedIn - update your photo, choose a cool background.

  5. Podcasts: Check out  The Successful Bookkeeper

  6. Secure Sharing and protecting information: Never send documents with Social Security Numbers through emails. Use secure methods like shared drives or Dropbox for document sharing.

  7. Get Certified in QBO:  Stay up to date by reading Intuit’s  updates

  8. Hone your spreadsheet skills!: Boost your skills with free spreadsheet classes available online. You'll be a spreadsheet wizard in no time!

  9. Double your productivity (at least): you will be much more productive with two large monitors. Working on a laptop should only be for a short period of time.

  10. Build Bridges: Foster a relationship with your client’s CPAs

  11. Embrace innovation:   We need to constantly be looking for ways to improve processes and be open to Chat GPT and AI models.  Help your clients see the benefit of working in the cloud and sharing G- drives.

  12. Never Stop Learning: Remember, training is a continuous journey. The more you invest in your skills, the more you can contribute to your clients' success. Embrace complex challenges—they're your stepping stones to expertise!

In the world of bookkeeping, each day is a chance to thrive. So, embark on this exciting journey, and remember, we're here to support you every step of the way. Happy bookkeeping!
